Village History
The center of the village is 510 meters above sea level. The surrounding area is 480-752 meters above sea level. The village of Rudno is situated within the southwestern part of Turcianska valley where it comes together with the Ziar hills which is on the side of a creek called Podskalie. The southeastern part of Rudno has been deforested with the northwestern part being formed by granites. There are spruce forests with some pine. Majority of soils are brown. There is a sulfur mineral spring within Rudno. Rudno is first mentioned in 1343. From 1421 until the Nineteenth century they collected tolls here. The village belonged to the landlords of Slovenske Pravno. In 1553 they created a mining colony with an inheritable mayors chair. In 1715 there were 15 households and in 1720 there was a mill. In the year 1785 there were 33 houses and 251 inhabitants and in 1828 there were 41 houses and 250 inhabitants. The residents of Rudno were farmers and craftsmen. They had a post office here in Eighteenth century. During the first republic, after 1918 the residents worked in farming, forestry and there was a wood mill. There was an abundance of weaving and this still remains today. During the years 1938-1947 there was a brick manufacturing plant. Part of the inhabitants now work in different industrial factories in Martin, Nitrianske Pravno and Pravenec.
Church:
Rudno offers a Roman Catholic Church which was constructed of wood and dates from 1790-1792. This structure was built in place of the original church which dated from 1422. Parts of the interior furniture are from the 17th and 18th centuries.
