TCC would like to express our gratitude to John Hromyak for providing us with two aerial photos and a description of his ancestral village of Tichý Potok. 

Tichý Potok is located on the Torysa River in Sabinov okres, Šarišská Župa, Slovensko.  It is a Carpatho-Rusyn village.  The village presently consists of 144 houses, a tavern and a grocery store.  Mr. Hromyak's Grandmother's name was Seginak.  Other related families in the village are: Cifra, Lukac, Lazor, Varšov, Pacinda, Orabinec, Klembara, Rejnic, Koscelnik, and Hric.

Number of inhabitants during various years: 

1869-726, 1880-699, 1890-768, 1900-710, 1910-612, 1921-564, 1930-599, 1940-634, 1948-640, 1961-632, 1970-597.

Area is 848 Hectares. The center of the village is 520 meters above the sea level and the area of the village is between 500 to 1090 meters above the sea level. Tichý Potok lies in Levoca's mountains in the valley of river TORYSA. Soils are brown. The forests are predominantly spruce and beech. Characteristics in the area are terrace fields. 

The village is first mentioned in 1427 when it belonged to landlords of Torysa, Berzeviczy and Taracsay. It burned down in 1682. During 1787 it had 58 houses and 409 inhabitants, in 1828 it had 81 houses and 600 inhabitants. They were involved in sheepherding, cattle farming, and working in the forests. In the 19th century they had a sand quarry in the area. Major catastrophes (floods) occurred in 1908,1922 and 1956.

At the present time there is a wood mill in the area. Private farmers are working the soil and part of the inhabitants work in the forestry industry and many work in the factories in near by Lipany and Kosice.

The church is Greek Catholic originally in Gothic style from early 14th century and rebuilt in 1696. The belfry is from 1822 and the church was enlarged in 1862. The folk clothing is similar to villages in the surrounding areas.
